The Queen of Wonderment (in a ball skirt)

This otherworldly astonishing queen inspires us to imagine ourselves away from earthly standards. To create a universe for yourself that is pleasing at the same time whilst living with and appreciating others and your contributions and exchanges with all of them, globally.

Her ball skirt concept came about first because I had an image of a full skirt made of odd-found items and upcycled trash, something like a modern-day Cinderella’s dress.

Also, she has no lower legs, yet her German leather torso has weight to it.  So, I did some research on hoop skirts and figured out a way to have a metal hoop frame made that would also be her stand so that I could tie to the hoop frame various threads, strings, ties, and fabric strands and washed Linen dryer fluff.  Found in my procession some colorful shiny Mylar circles from the 80s… specifically, if you are an Angeleno they came from a wonderful place called Berger Beads that customers from the Hollywood movie industry and jewelry makers use to shop.

Her head and arms are made from a loomed and hand-embroidered Guatemalan Ikat fabric.

Her third eye is made from a vintage Indian fabric that has little embroidered mirrors within it.

Her closed eye is appliqued on from a vintage Kantha piece, and the cheeks are from my collection of vintage cotton depression-era prints.

A little bleach was sprinkled around her head and arms to add even more texture and antique the fabric up a bit.
